Guidelines and Expectations
Materials Needed for Class:
¯ Be an active member of the class! Make sure to always sing and participate in all activities!
¯ Arrive on time or with a pass and sit in your assigned seat
¯ Respect the teacher, all students, all equipment, and yourself
¯ Come prepared for class. Be responsible for yourself.
¯ No food, gum, or drinks (other than water)
¯ Most Importantly: Have Fun Through Working Hard!
We will be singing pieces of music from a varied choral repertoire including patriotic music, folk music, musical theatre, popular music, as well as music of other cultures. We will be developing vocal ability through various types of warm-ups and music exercises. We will also be building our music-reading skills, specifically melodic and rhythm reading and the skill of sight singing.
All chorus students will be assigned a small lesson group and are expected to attend scheduled sectional rehearsals. Make up dates will be made available. You will have the opportunity to audition for the NMEA Division II All County Music Festival and to participate in the NYSSMA solo adjudication festival.
The grade you earn in this class will be part of your overall school average; the work you do here will matter as much as the work in your other classes. Your grade will not be dependent on how well you can sing, but rather your effort and ability to progress.
